Change The World One Seed At A Time

Something remarkable happened in Humla during the pandemic — young people returned back to the villages from the crowded and polluted cities in Nepal. There is now a crucial window of opportunity for the next generation to commit to sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty.

Our vision is for the community to band together to save and share our ancient heirloom and open pollinated seeds that are in danger of disappearing off the face of the earth as a result of multinational corporations and agribusinesses that have begun to control our seed supply.

Seed saving is urgent. Our culture literally arose due to seed saving. Seeds are the foundation of life, from fruits and vegetables to grains — without them we have no food.

Ancient heirloom varieties are disappearing at an alarming rate. 35% of the crop varieties grown in Humla have disappeared in just five years due to climate change and western agribusiness. The current pandemic crisis has revealed the importance and urgency for access to sustainable seed banks.

Middle World Alliance aims to create a vast seed library to share and exchange with indigenous farmers in the region.

To achieve this goal by September, we need to raise $25,000.USD to build the infrastructure to dry and store seeds, and build greenhouses to grow food for the winter. It is a significant sum to request at this unprecedented time in history, exceeded many times by our appreciation and the impact it will have ensuring the health, food, culture, and future of Humla.
Please give as generously as you can.

Now more than ever, indigenous farmers and shamans hold an essential wisdom that can help address prosperity in Humla, and provide the foundation for creating the conditions that ensure global peace and wellbeing for the earth and humanity.
