The indigenous people of Humla in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal view the natural world as sacred and alive with visible and invisible forces. Among the Humli people, the primary doctors and community leaders are shamans who practice the ancient healing art of shamanism to restore balance to nature and the physical body, finding solutions to problems of illness and weather imbalances that afflict their community. As Humla quickly modernizes and its land becomes a target for economic gain, this powerful and valuable form of healing and deep ecology is at risk of being lost.
